How to: Add Vehicles and Odometer Readings

MileIQ’s Vehicles feature makes it easy to log the vehicle associated with your drives and the annual odometer reading for each vehicle.
 
Whether one vehicle or multiple, you can add detailed information like make, model, year, nickname, and annual odometer readings*. You can set a default vehicle or quickly select the appropriate vehicle right on MileIQ’s Drive Cards.
 
Vehicles can be added from within the Mobile App or from the Web Dashboard and will be included in requested reports.
 

Mobile App

There are two ways to add a vehicle in the MileIQ Mobile App, from the Drive Details form with the Car Icon on the Drive Card or from the Personalization section of the Settings panel.

Drive Card

If you've just taken a drive, the easiest way to add a vehicle is from the Vehicle Tab at the bottom of the Drive Card. Simply tap the Vehicle Tab and then 'Add New Vehicle'.

   

If you haven't added a vehicle yet, you'll immediately see the Vehicle Details screen. If you've already added a vehicle, you'll have the option to select between that vehicle or 'Add New Vehicle'.  If you have more than one vehicle listed, you may need to click 'Show More' before you see the 'Add New Vehicle" choice.

From the Vehicle Details menu, there are options to enter the Make, Model, Year, Nickname, and Odometer Readings. To make the current vehicle the primary vehicle for the account, toggle the Primary Vehicle switch. When the switch is green, that vehicle is set to Primary.

Alternatively, to add or manage vehicles in bulk, tap the 'Menu' button at the top left of the app interface. Then, select Personalization > Vehicles.     

   

If you haven't added a vehicle yet, you can add a new one. Selecting '+ Add New' will bring up the Vehicle Details form as shown in the Drive Card section above.

If you already added a vehicle from the Vehicle Tab on the Drive Card or from the Web Dashboard, you'll have the ability to edit the existing vehicle information, add an additional vehicle, delete the existing vehicle, or toggle the Primary vehicle setting. 

  
 

Web Dashboard

To access the Vehicles feature from the Web Dashboard, you’ll first need to log in to your Web Dashboard (same email and password as the app) at dashboard.mileiq.com.

Once logged in, you’ll see all of your drives. There are two ways to add a vehicle from the MileIQ Web Dashboard, from the Drive Details form within a Drive Card or from the Vehicles section of the Settings page.

Drive Card

To quickly add a vehicle to a drive that has recently been classified, click on the row with the drive. 
 
 
From the Drive Card, click on the Vehicle dropdown to expose the list of vehicles. If you haven't added a vehicle yet, you can add a new one. Simply select 'Add a vehicle' to bring up the details form.
 


If you already added a vehicle from the Mobile App or from the Settings page, you will see the vehicle and be able to select it from the dropdown list.
 
 
The 'Add a vehicle' form allows for Make, Model, Year, and Nickname. Click 'Add' to finalize the new vehicle details. More details can be added in settings (covered below).
 
 

Vehicles Section

To add or manage vehicles in bulk, click the Settings button (next to your username/email) from the main Drive List.
 
 
From the Settings page, select the Vehicles & Odometer section and press the green 'Add New Vehicle' button on the right to bring up the Vehicle Details form.
 
 
In the Vehicle Details menu there are options to enter Make, Model, Year, a Nickname, Notes, and the annual Odometer Readings* for the vehicle. 

When you’ve finished entering your info, please remember to ‘Save Changes’ to complete the entry of your vehicle.
 
 
Once saved, your vehicle will be visible in the main vehicles menu, where you can also add additional vehicles as needed. To adjust the primary vehicle (the one that gets assigned to your drives by default), click on the vehicle you want set as primary, then in the Edit Vehicles window, toggle the Primary Vehicle optin to 'Yes'.
 
 

Remove / Restore Vehicle

To remove a vehicle from the list or 'hide' it, click on the Vehicle Details page of the vehicle you want to remove. Press the ‘Hide this vehicle’ button at the bottom.
 
 
To restore a removed vehicle, press the vehicle you want restored of the main vehicles page*.
 
 
From the main Vehicles & Odometer page, you'll see the recently restored vehicle listed in the "My Vehicle List" section.
 
 

Reporting by Vehicle

For vehicle specific reporting, you can search your drives based on vehicle by using the search box at the top left.

Advanced Notes: 

* It is important to note that while you do want odometer readings at the start of every year for each vehicle, it isn't actually a requirement to have odometer readings for every single drive. Reference IRS documentation here

* The ‘View removed vehicles’ button will only be visible if you’ve previously removed a vehicle.
