How to Add Vehicles and Odometer Readings

We make it easy to assign your vehicle(s) to a drive; and add the starting annual odometer reading(s) to each vehicle.

You can set a default vehicle for all drives, or assign a vehicle to a particular drive, just by selecting ‘Add a Vehicle’ in the app or dashboard. All added vehicles will be included in your mileage reports.  You can add detailed information for every vehicle, such as: make, model, year, nickname, and annual odometer reading.

Adding a vehicle in the MileIQ app

There are two ways to add a vehicle in the app: either from the car icon on the individual drive screen or the 'Vehicles' section of the Account Settings menu.

Drive screen
If you've just taken a drive, the easiest way to add a vehicle is from the Vehicle Tab at the bottom of the drive screen. Simply tap the Vehicle Tab and then 'Add New Vehicle'.

If you haven't added a vehicle yet, you'll immediately see the Vehicle Details screen. If you've already added a vehicle, you'll have the option to select between that vehicle or 'Add New Vehicle'.  If you have more than one vehicle listed, you may need to click 'Show More' before you see the 'Add New Vehicle' choice.

From the Vehicle Details menu, there are options to enter the make, model, year, nickname, and odometer reading. To make the current vehicle the primary vehicle for the account, toggle the Primary Vehicle switch. When the switch is green, that vehicle is set to Primary.

Vehicles menu
To add or manage vehicles in bulk, tap the 'Menu' button at the top left of the app interface. Then, select Account Settings > Vehicles.

If you haven't added a vehicle yet, you can add a new one by tapping '+ Add Vehicle' which will bring up the Vehicle Details form as shown below.

If you already added a vehicle, you'll have the ability to edit the existing vehicle information, add an additional vehicle, delete the existing vehicle, or toggle the Primary vehicle setting.

Adding a vehicle in the web dashboard

There are two ways to add a vehicle from the web dashboard: from 'Drive Details' in the right column under the drive screen; or from the 'Vehicles' section of the Settings page.

For either option, log in to your Web Dashboard (same email and password as the app) at Once logged in, you’ll see all of your drives.

Drives Tab
To quickly add a vehicle to a drive, click on the drive to select it. The drive screen will appear in the right column. Click the drop down under 'Vehicle' and select 'Add a new vehicle'.

From the vehicle details menu that appears, there are options to enter the make, model, year, nickname, and odometer reading. To make the current vehicle the primary vehicle, click 'Yes' next to 'Primary vehicle'.

Once you've filled out all the necessary details, click on 'Add vehicle' to save the vehicle to your profile.
This new vehicle, and any you may have added from the app or dashboard, will appear in the vehicle dropdown list on the drive screen.

Vehicles section
To add or manage vehicles in bulk, click the Settings button in the left navigation column.

  • From the Settings page, under the Drives Section, click on Vehicles & Odometer.
  • Click on 'Add new vehicle' to bring up the Vehicle Details menu.
  • In the Vehicle Details menu there are options to enter make, model, year, nickname, and odometer reading* for the vehicle.
  • When you’ve finished entering the details, please remember to click ‘Add Vehicle’ to complete the entry of your vehicle.
  • Once saved, your vehicle will be visible in the main vehicles menu, where you can also add additional vehicles as needed.
  • To adjust the primary vehicle (the one that gets assigned to your drives by default), click on the vehicle you want set as primary, then click on 'Yes' next to 'Primary Vehicle', and then click 'Save'.
Remove / Restore Vehicle

To remove a vehicle from the list, or 'hide' it, you have two methods you can choose from.

First, click on the Vehicle Details page of the vehicle you want to remove, then click the ‘Hide this vehicle’ button at the bottom.
The other option is to click the Menu icon to the right of the vehicle from your list, and choose 'Hide this vehicle'.
To restore a removed vehicle, press the 'Restore vehicle' button from the main vehicles page.

Additional Information

*It is important to note that while you do need starting odometer readings each year for each vehicle, it's not a requirement to have odometer readings for every single drive. Reference IRS documentation here.
