How do I start to track my first drive?

šŸš— Getting Started with MileIQ: Tracking Your First Drive

Welcome to MileIQ! Once you've installed the app, you're just one drive away from unlocking automatic mileage tracking.

āœ… Step 1: Check Your Settings

Before hitting the road, make sure Location Services are enabled on your device. This allows MileIQ to automatically detect and track your drives with precision—no manual input needed.

āš ļø Heads up: Until you complete your first drive, the app will appear empty. That’s because MileIQ kicks in only when it detects a drive—automatically!

šŸ›£ļø Step 2: Take Your First Drive

There’s no need to press start or stop—MileIQ tracks drives automatically. Just go for a drive, and MileIQ will do the rest!

ā³ Step 3: After the Drive

Once you’ve parked and stopped moving, give the app up to 15 minutes to process your drive. This ā€œsettling timeā€ helps ensure MileIQ correctly identifies your trip and that it has truly ended.

🚧 In areas with poor signal (like underground parking), processing might take a bit longer.

When your drive is ready, a drive card will appear in the app with:

  • Start and end locations
  • Mileage
  • Duration

šŸ—‚ļø Step 4: Classify Your Drive

Swipe to classify:

  • šŸ‘‰ Swipe right for Business
  • šŸ‘ˆ Swipe left for Personal

Learn more here: How to classify Drives

After classification, your drives will be sent to the Web Dashboard at dashboard.mileiq.com, where you can:

  • Edit drive details
  • Generate reports
  • Access advanced tools

šŸ“ Optional: Name Frequent Locations

If your first drive includes a location you visit often (and it's not within 0.12 miles of another saved spot), you can name it for easy future reference.

Learn how here: How to name your Locations

ā“ Not Seeing a Drive?

If your drive doesn’t appear after 15 minutes, check the following:

  • Did you drive at least 0.5 miles? Drives shorter than this won’t be recorded.
  • Is Location Services enabled?
