How to setup MileIQ to track trips on iOS 13

With the update to iOS 13+ on iPhones and iPads, location services for apps defaults to a “While Using App” selection.  If it’s your first time using MileIQ, you can make sure MileIQ can log your drives by changing the location permission to “Always”. 

⚠️ If you’ve just installed MileIQ, jump to the next section for initial setup instructions.

How to update my location settings with iOS 13 (or newer) updates

If you’re already using MileIQ, you’ll be prompted with the following screen:

You can correct the issue by tapping Fix in Settings to be automatically taken to the location services settings for MileIQ on your device.  Tap on Always to make sure you’re always ready to log a drive.

 

You’re all set to log drives with MileIQ and the update to your iOS.

 

Please Note:  After 3 days you will be prompted with this notification.

Tap on Always Allow to ensure that MileIQ retains access to location data and log your drives moving forward.

 

How to set up location when installing MileIQ

If you’ve just downloaded the app, the newest versions of iOS make getting location access set up a two-step process.

Step 1: Simply tap Set up location and select Allow While Using App.

Step 2: Tap the Go to Settings button to be automatically taken to the MileIQ settings on your iPhone or iPad.  Choose the Always option to allow MileIQ to run in the background and detect your drives at any time.

 

Upon returning to the app, you’ll continue setting up MileIQ with push notifications (this is optional, but can be helpful).

Tap Allow to turn them on and Allow again to verify your selection.  Alternately, you can skip this step by selecting Not Now.
